In theology there is more imagination than you would think. On the other hand, art allows you to reveal more traces of God than you would suspect. That is the discovery of media artist and theologian Arent Weevers. For him art and theology are two chambers of the heart. Both are shot through with a longing for a life of human dignity. Weevers’ internationally praised interactive installations, 2D and 3D stereoscopic and holographic artworks reflect this journey of discovery. In this book they are highlighted in a special way by experts and critics, and by Weevers himself. Musings provides an in-depth and highly personal insight into the work and motives of a people-involved and transcendent-oriented artist.
The book consists of ten chapters on ten works of art. Prof. dr. Aaron Rosen, an American specialist in the field of art and religion, kicks off with a foreword. The chapters are made up of four short articles: an expert’s consideration of a work of art, the ‘how and why’ a particular work of art was created and thematic articles related to the work, such as: care for nature, physicality, suffering, painful beauty, desire, sources of inspiration, relationships and death.
A Dutch version of this book was published by Lecturis earlier in 2021 entitled Mijmeringen. Over kunst, lichaam en religie.
With contributions by Aaron Rosen, Petran Kockelkoren, René Kok, Joost de Wal, Wouter Prins, Annette Doms, Ludger Phanz, Anikó Ouweneel-Tóth, Ingrid de Zwart and David Dramm.
